Grady J. Koch

Grady J. Koch received the B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1991, M.S. from the University of Illinois in 1995, and the Ph. D. degree from Old Dominion University in 2001. Dr. Koch has been working at the NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton VA since 1987. He is currently an Electro-Optical Engineer in the Laser Remote Sensing Branch (LRSB) at the NASA Langley Research Center.

A specific research project that Dr. Koch has worked on is the Doppler Aerosol Wind LIDAR (DAWN); the project’s goal was to compactly and robustly package the 2-micron, Ho:Tm:LuLiF, pulsed laser technology developed at Langley for airborne wind measurements. The DAWN instrument has flown in flight campaigns for applications in hurricane studies, offshore wind energy prospecting, and meteorology.

He has appeared as author or co-author on over 150 scientific papers on topics including LIDAR system development, laser technology, and LIDAR applications. Dr. Koch’s publications can be found here, on Google Scholar:
